The company originated in 1911 as the Computing-Tabulating- Recording Company (CTR) and was renamed “International Business Machines” in 1924.

This includes spinning off printer manufacturer Lexmark in 1991 and selling off its personal computer (ThinkPad) and x86-based server businesses to Lenovo (2005 and 2014, respectively), and acquiring companies such as PwC Consulting (2002), SPSS (2009), and The Weather Company(2016). Also in 2014, IBM announced that it would go ufabless, continuing to design semiconductors but offloading manufacturing to GlobalFoundries.

　　通过从应用翻译的视角对国内公司网页英语文本误译之反思，并对国外著 名公司的企业介绍进行对比分析，可以看出公司简介涉及的主要内容是公司所 在地的地理位置、产品性能介绍、公司外部联系、团队精神、技术专长、文化 底蕴、生产工艺以及财务状况等等。基于对上述翻译错误的分析可以得出一个 结论，这些错误主要表现在标点符号使用不当、语义选择不准、词形变化不当、 句法的条理不清、语体风格平淡。在翻译的过程中，反向翻译（backtmnslaticm) 即把原译文（translated words and sentences)重新译成原文（SL)来检测翻译结 果是否准确的办法非常有效。翻译时，要好好地把握翻译单位（TU),找准翻 译困难（TD)的根源。并从语义、句法、文体等方面对两个文本加以评判， 这实际上是在考察译者使用目的语进行创造性写作的能力。可见，要完全地道 准确地完成从原语（SL)到目的语（TL)的语码转换，确实并非易事。

　　因此，在谈到翻译批评时，Wills (2001: 176)还说过，就其方法而言，“错 误分析（error analysis)方法比对比语言学（contrastive linguistics)方法要复杂 得多。”翻译公司译者在翻译的过程中，不能一味地追求两种语言之间表层结构的对等，而是 要力求结合心理语言学的多种因素，发挥译者的多重转换能力才可望得到理想 的翻译结果。翻译是一个永无止境的过程，完全“理想的翻译”是不存在的。 笔者的改译文本也不例外，撰写本文的目的只是像Douglas Robinson (2003: 48) 所说的那样，译者也同样是“学习者（translator as learner)”而己。
