②象征风尘女子。每年春天柳絮都会纷纷扬扬到处飘飞，这就使人们觉得柳树过 于轻浮、妖娆，因此柳树也就有了一层不好的含义。例如，“花街柳巷”指代妓院等 色情场所，而“寻花问柳”则表示男子寻访风尘女子，嫖娼作乐。再如：
这贾蔷外相既美，内性又聪明，虽然应名来上学，亦不过虚掩眼目而已。仍是斗 鸡走狗，赏花问柳。

③象征着忧伤。柳树之所以成为离别的象征，一方面是因为“柳”与“留”谐 音，有“挽留”之意；另一方面是因为柳条纤细柔韧，象征绵绵的情谊。例如，刘禹 锡的《柳枝词》：“清江一曲柳千条，二十年前旧板桥。曾与美人桥上别，恨无消息 到今朝。”
④象征友情。古时候，人们通常将柳树作为朋友分别时赠送的礼物，以期友人能 够像柳树一样随遇而安。例如，王之涣的《送别》：“杨柳东风树，青青夹御河。近 来攀折苦，应为别离多。”

①象征女子身材苗条与动作优雅。由于柳枝细长绵软，很容易让人联想起女性优 美的身段。因此，英语中多用willow来形容女子。例如：She is a willowy young actress.

②用于驱邪。在复活节前的星期日，西方人常用柳树来祈福，将之挂于家中驱赶 所有的邪恶。
③象征失恋、哀伤、死亡。这一象征意义与以前英国人戴柳叶花圈以示哀 悼的习俗有关。在莎士比亚的著名戏剧《奥赛罗》中，黛斯德蒙娜 (Desden na)说道：
