一、寻找对等词
寻找对等词是指在目标语中寻找与源语含义相同或相似的词语。由于英语具有一 词多义的特点，所以在翻译过程中寻找对等词时一定要弄清楚源语语境。例如：
As lucky would have it, no one was hurt in the accident.
幸运的是，在事故中没有人受伤。
As lucky would have it, we were caught in the rain.
真倒霉，我们挨雨淋了。
二、词性转换
所谓词性转换，就是将源语中的一种词性的词语用目标语中另一种词性的词语进 行翻译。例如：
The operation of a computer needs some knowledge of its performance.
操作计算机需要懂它的一些性能。（名词转换为动词）…and that government of the people, by the people, for the people…民有、民治、民享的政府。（介词转换为动词）、Official India objects the proposal put forward by the United States.
印度政府反对美国提出的此项建议。（形容词转换为名词）All the students say that the professor is very informative.
所有的学生都说那位教授使他们掌握了许多知识。（形容词转换为名词）Snow was treated very shabbily by the U. S. press and officialdom during this period, victimized for his views.
在这期间，斯诺受到了美国新闻界和政界极不公正的对待，由于他的观点，他受 到了迫害。（副词转换为形容词）
